3D Static Laser Scanning

3D Laser Scanning is a survey-grade ground-based instrument that utilizes LIDAR (light detection and ranging) and is a topographic mapping system capable of great accuracy, rapid data acquisition, and economic efficiency in comparison to conventional survey methods. The system acquires digital data and discriminates between the ground surface and different levels of vegetation or building features. One of the main benefits of this technology is that it picks up everything in “line of sight” of the scan as well as a 360-degree view of pictures that are registered to the point cloud. If an item such as an adjacent curb line, tree, fence line, etc. is needed at a later time and it was captured in the scan the data can be extracted without returning to the project site. LIDAR data can be displayed or output in any scale and delivered in GIS and CAD formats.
